Daowai, Beyond Its Glory

These walls were made to insulate the original settlers of Harbin from the biting cold of the long winter. Wood and coal are used in times of abundance to stoke the fire, but the legs of a desk or chair forgo their future utility for some immediate warmth. Over the last hundred years these homes have seen countless events, births and deaths and the cracks forming in the walls are like wrinkles in your grandfathers face, they grow more pronounced with each passing season.
